We want the pick of the potato patch! The South Australian Potato Company is currently seeking a person with experience in all facets of potato production reporting to the Peebinga Farm Manager, that can carry out all activities in regards to the production of high quality potatoes and harvesting of the crop with general Cereal Crops.

If you have experience in potato production and cereal crops and are looking for the next step in your career then this position would be highly suited to your aspirations. The candidate would be responsible for the harvesting of our potatoes and managing the harvest crew. When not required for harvesting the candidate would be required to work in a hands-on role carrying out other potato and farm related activities such as managing centre pivot irrigators, fertilising, spraying and general farming activities. During periods leave by the Farm Manager the incumbent would be responsible for the farm as the acting Farm Manager.

The position would be primarily based at Peebinga in the Mallee region of SA, but there may be times that you would be required to work at our other farming operations based at Peebinga, Virginia, or Langhorne creek.

Key Responsibilities

  • Harvesting potatoes and supervising the harvest crew.
  • Maintaining records for activities carried out.
  • Operating centre pivot irrigation systems
  • Fertilising, spraying and general tractor operations.
  • General farm maintenance
  • Other general farm activities as required.
  • The position requires the candidate to be available for weekend work and harvesting at night when required in rotation with the Farm Manager.

Key Attributes and Experience sought from the ideal candidate

  • Experience in potato production with potato harvesting experience highly regarded.
  • General Cereal crops and cover crops
  • Must possess and strong work ethic and be willing to work as part of a team.
  • A current forklift licence, and Chemical users certificate are essential.
  • Previous experience in managing staff will be highly regarded.
  • Sound communication, computer and reporting skills required.

An attractive remuneration package shall be negotiated with the successful candidate based on qualifications and experience along with a tool of trade utility and phone. Accommodation can also be negotiated as part of the salary package for the successful candidate.
